Author Dybek to speak Tuesday at UIndy

Acclaimed short-story writer Stuart Dybek will speak and read from his work Tuesday, March 19, at the University of Indianapolis.

His Kellogg Writers Series appearance will begin at 7:30 p.m. in UIndy Hall C of the University’s Schweitzer Student Center, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. Admission is free.

Dybek is the author of three collections of short stories, most inspired by his native Chicago. I Sailed With Magellan and The Coast of Chicago were named New York Times Notable Books, and Childhood and Other Neighborhoods was a One Book One Chicago selection. Dybek also has published two collections of poetry: Streets in Their Own Ink and Brass Knuckles. His fiction, poetry and nonfiction have appeared in The New Yorker, Harper’s, The Atlantic, Poetry, Tin House and other publications, and have been anthologized in Best American Fiction and Best American Poetry.

Among his many awards are a PEN/Malamud Prize “for distinguished achievement in the short story,” a Lannan Award, a Whiting Writers Award, an award from the Academy of Arts and Letters, several O. Henry Prizes, and fellowships from the National Endowment for the Arts and the Guggenheim Foundation. In 2007, Dybek was awarded a John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation Fellowship.
